Power Generator Gl.Erz400b ( GG400 )

GG400

HISTORY
Usually simply called GG400 (Gleichstorm Erzeuger 400W typ b = 400W power generator type b) this generator was widespread used in Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe. On board of armored vehicle, mobile workshops, laboratories, etc.. was used to keep in charge or recharge 12 V batteries widespread used in Third Reich Army. For example, for tanks in a prolonged stop the army regulation was to keep in listening the radio equipments so instead of keep in charge the batteries with the tank motor the radio operator could turn on only the Power Generator GG400 saving the high fuel consumption of the very big tank engine Very often on board were available two or more GG.400 power groups. On July 1939 from about 4.2 million of German vehicles 2.4 million were using this type of Power Generators. The GG.400, designed and built by Auto Union AG (now days called AUDI ) for the Third Reich Army is probably with its limits, the best for those times. The accuracy of the construction, the easy maintenance, and use, compactness and aesthetics make it a jewel of technology.

TECHNOLOGY
